Our Modular Syllabus

We know you have questions on what certification looks like for us. Here is a sneak peak.

At IPEC we also honor that you may have not entered into the work at all, and need to start from the very beginning to the very end. Some folks come with backgrounds & training that is applicable to certification hours. We're here to let you practice what you already know and adapt it to work on set or stage. 

​

100 total training hours
At least 75 of the hours must be completed for certification


Not all sections must be completed via IPEC training program, however, labs must be completed to show understanding of the knowledge

All lectures are prerecorded. Lectures can be viewed for continuing education purposes as well as certification. 

Labs MUST be completed in order to receive credit for viewing lectures. 

You also have the option to do a lab only simulation if you have previous education in an area & are looking to practice.

This is available for anyone from beginner to working professional.

Module 1 - What is an Intimacy Coordinator?

Introduction to Intimacy Coordination 

Some of the Topics covered:
- What is an Intimacy Coordinator?
- What do they do?
- Defining Consent 
- Clearly Setting Boundaries and Expectations
- Intersectionality Introduction.
- Power Dynamics 

- Basic script analysis

Module 2: Intimacy and Intersectionality

Module 2 has four courses in it. One is Closure and three of these courses are: Race and Anti-racism, Gender Orientation, and Disability and Anti-ablism. These 3 courses ICEC will pro- vide a class for each section in collaboration with expert(s) in their given fields.

- Intersectionality and the Film Industry
- Intersectionality and Intimacy
- What are my identities and how do they effect me in the work?
- Conscious and Unconscious Bias on set
- Reflection on my personal conscious and unconscious bias
- Recognition of systemic bias
- Clear initiatives in participants personal work for Harm reduction, Harm Prevention, Harm

*LAB 1: Movement and Intimacy
This lab is meant  to practice the techniques and concepts we have learned in the process thus far. This lab focuses on in person practices of consent, boundaries and expectations, trust building, and respectful communication. The Intimacy for stage and screen technique (Tonia Sina) is also introduced, as well as movement practices like laban, Droznin movement, and others. Small choreography pieces are also introduced (no sex is staged).

OPTIONAL LAB: Round Table Discussion on Intersectionality and Intimacy

Small group, round table discussions will be held discussing and reflecting on each course in a community fashion. Please feel free to come share personal discoveries or recommend classes and further education opportunities. This is an optional lab.

MODULE 3: Let’s Talk about it.

Bystander Intervention, Anti-Harassment and Conflict resolution

*Trauma Informed Communication

- Mental Health First Aid Certification
- Non violent Communication

-Sex Positive Conversations
- Sexual Dramaturgy

- Breaking Down Scripts
- Director Conversations
- Actor Conversations
- Interdepartmental conversations
- Liaison between actors and production - Dealing with Resistance

- Riders

*LAB 2: Breaking it Down
This lab is an opportunity to analyze a script, break it down, and practice doing director and actor phone calls. We will practice dealing with resistance and changes. And we will be practic- ing submitting riders to legal.

Module 4: Staging Hyper-Exposed Scenes

Topics covered:

*Kissing

*Staging Sex Part 1

*Barriers, Modesty garments, Props, and Kit

Staging Sex part 2: Nudity

- Masking modesty garments
- hiding and working with prosthetics and props - Camera angles
- hiding barriers
- re-application best practices

​

*LAB 3: STAGING SIM SEX
In this Lab participants will stage a variety of sexual encounters with fully dressed fellow participants. This will offer them the opportunity to feel the vulnerability the actors do while staging sex, and practice their language when describing sexual activities and positions. **Hours from in person workshops can be applied to credit hours.

*LAB 4: STAGING SIM SEX FOR THE CAMERA
In this lab participants will stage simulated sex and nudity and build modesty garments for a variety of camera angles (all participants remain clothed). We will also continue to investigate camera angles.

*LAB 5: STAGING SIM SEX CONTINUED
- In this lab participants will stage hyper-exposed scenes with actors. Small focus groups will

be provided. No Nudity required.

Module 5: SET ETIQUITE

*Life on set
A detailed breakdown of who does what on a film set. (Much of this will be review as we are covering it throughout the course). This class is to answer any questions participants have about who does what on set, and who to talk to with questions or needs. We will cover the hi- erarchy and jurisdiction of duties on set. We will also discuss union rules on set (DGA, IATSE, PGA, etc). How to read a one-liner, a call sheet, and other documents.

*Review of IC Protocols

*A deep dive into camera angles, lenses, and how to communicate this the camera crew.

*LAB 6: ON THE DAY

- Simulation of filming day on set with actors and a director and team.

Additional Module: Shadowing, Mentorship, and Continuing Education

*This module is created especially for participants who have less on set experience, or participants who feel they would like extra support in any area of work covered in the program.

​

This module is dedicated to helping to bridge the gap (if there is one) from IC in training to working IC. Participants will have the opportunity to attend discounted Special topics courses and Labs for up to a year after completion. Shadowing is available whenever possible. Mentorship is continuous. Participants also have access to the network of IC’s who have graduated before them. This collective has meet-ups and support sessions as well as shadowing and cover opportunities.
