What is a PAA?

We know that mentorship & guidance are a critical part of assessing new skill. We call our mentorship, a Principled Advisory and Application Session, or PAA!

How do I use my PAA?

This time is to use as you wish, with recommendations below

on how to use this time while in training.

Ways to use your Principled Advisory and Application Session:

  • This is excellent time to get feedback on a recent practice session, AKA Lab or an in person lab/workshop.

  • Bring your questions & reflections to this session. This is a juicy opportunity to dive deep with an experienced teacher.

  • You can also get help if you are prepping a project you would like guidance on, and even a session to provide closure & feedback on something you have just wrapped!

  • Are you a working professional and could use a session to work through preparation for something new to you, closure after a production wraps, or even conflict resolution

You do not have to be an "official" learner here to have a PAA Session. See our

recommended use of these sessions below.

Suggested Sessions

1

Introduction to your Medium

Designed to get to know you, your goals, what community you are in, and expectations for the school. We answer questions and do our best to get you started on the path you desire.

If you haven't chosen a bundle yet, this is where we can help guide you

We want you consistently ask yourself, even in day 1, how am I getting into community so I can eventually put this to work

2

Intersectionality

We suggest you take your Module 2 Labs: Race and Identity, Actionable Intersectionality, Gender, & Sexuality and using this time for feedback and additional guidance on how to apply what you are learning.

You can use this time to check in with an instructor with questions before to prepare for a lab or after for additional feedback of your application of studies during your practice session

3

Trauma Informed Practices

Similar to Module 2, we suggest you take your Module 3 Labs: 5 hours of Trauma Informed Practices & Mental Health First Aid.  Use this time for feedback on your work in labs so far, preparation for Choreography studies, and once again, how are you connecting with your medium in your area.

4

Choreography

We suggest 2 PAA Sessions for Choreography Module. You can use this time in a wide variety of ways: as feedback from a lab session (detailed below), Q&A from the lectures or past choreography experience, prepping a job, and closure from a job.

Module 4 Lab Sessions must cover Coverage Garments/ barriers, Intercourse &

Outercourse Choreography (working with actors), Choreographic

Language, and Special movement topics. We at IPEC believe that we should have a a myriad of ways to talk about movement & the body, as well as being able to communicate effectively to actors, colleagues, & directors.

Putting it all together & Capstone

In this Module, it's all about the nuts and bolts of  the medium you are working in. Emails, Crew Lists, Call Sheets, Call times, Rehearsal Structure, Considerations for Hyper-Exposure for stage and screen, and more.

This PAA session is a check in for all learners interested in this lecture series to ensure good foundations, preparation for opportunities to put this skill to work, and expectation setting for those taking Capstone.

Continued Education

A Principled Advisory & Application Session can also be an opportunity to see mentorship from someone in the IPEC community: our staff & board.

We also require a Pre-Certification PAA for those applying for certification. This is where we review your application with you & help you prep for your panel.

The number one ask for us is requesting shadowing & mentorship. While we cannot be on set or in the rehearsal room with you, we can create a plan for you to feel not only supported, but a place to talk about successes, failures, struggles, & guidance, no matter where you are in your journey.
